Role Summary: As a
Staff UX Design Technologist, you will bridge the gap between visual
design and UI development to lead the implementation and delivery of our
healthcare digital design system. You will bring extensive experience
of UX and design; enterprise UI development best practices, standards
and the latest UI frameworks; user testing; team leadership; and
outstanding communications to deliver the next generation of a design
system that is used by all of GE Healthcare's global digital
applications.
Essential Responsibilities:
In this role, you will:
Lead the product definition, components and standards roadmap and delivery for the design system.
Liaise
with a global team of product leads, engineers, testers and program
managers to help source requirements, evangelize the benefits of the
system, and guide and accelerate its adoption across a range of software
projects, technology environments and tech stacks.
Help prioritize features and own the product backlog for the system delivery
Write
design system documentation, and articulate the benefits and technical
components of adopting the system to both technical and non-technical
audiences
Work with a team of UI developers and 3rd party
contractors for delivery and a team of UX and visual designers on the
design direction
Ensure GE follows industry best practices
for usability, internationalization and accessibility and that the
system can be deployed using CD/CI
Guide, diagnose, advise
and troubleshoot and guide implementations with diverse global product
and engineering teams, who are working on multiple technology stacks and
in multiple environments (many not online)
Lead usability testing and actively user test the system in a range of actual-use and simulated environments
Rarely, if needed, be able to contribute and pitch in sporadically as a hands-on practitioner
Participate as a UX team member in design validation sessions and UX team initiatives
Demonstrate
mastery of the software development process using Agile, and articulate
how UX designers can best support development efforts
Articulate the pros/cons of specific technology for with regards to the user experience of a given product/service
Manage
coded components and design elements of the front-end design system in
terms of technology, versioning, and other requirements
Qualifications/Requirements:
Basic Qualifications:
Master�??s
degree with 3 years of experience web/mobile app development OR
Bachelor�??s Degree OR A minimum of 5 years of professional experience
in web/mobile app development OR a High School degree and 9 years
experience web/mobile app development
Advanced knowledge of HTML5, CSS, JavaScript and principals of responsive design and modern software development workflows
Able
to create complex interactive prototypes (in code) to express
interactive design ideas based upon user and stakeholder input and
feedback.
Basic understanding of Front-End Framework Architecture (e.g. Angular.js, Ember.js, React etc.) and how to use and optimize them
Eligibility Requirements:
Legal
authorization to work in the U.S. is required. GE may agree to sponsor
an individual for an employment visa now or in the future if there is a
shortage of individuals with particular skills
Must be willing to work out of an office located in Seattle, WA (preferred), San Ramon, CA or Chicago.
Desired Characteristics:
Technical Expertise:
Strong knowledge of CSS and JavaScript techniques for creating complex animation and interactions for user interfaces
Basic experience with native mobile application design (e.g. iOS, Android)
Basic infrastructure experience setting up web applications (e.g. AWS, Azure, or traditional in-house)
Advanced knowledge of APIs, Databases, and one server-side language (e.g. Python, Java, PHP, etc.)
Business Acumen:
Demonstrates knowledge of business�?? structure (P&Ls) and the interplay of functions to support business goals.
Understands the competitive landscape, regulatory marketing, etc. Articulates clearly the main industry dynamics.
Understands
key principles of design thinking, what it is and why it is important,
and how technology can be used in the process to explore possibilities.
Explores all ideas, regardless of their source.
Works to
create an understanding of how individual people and things fit within
larger structures (like systems or organizations), as well as the
relationships between parts of a system and the system as a whole.
